Sustainability

Our approach

The comprehensive measurement, reporting and verification of sustainability activities is a core focus of our business.

Our verifiable, responsible farming practices are backed by rigorous, data-driven evidence, balancing the economic, environmental and social impacts of the business.

Since 1992 we have championed the adoption of conservation farming techniques, becoming the first farmers in our region to implement zero tillage in 2003.

We are proud recipients of a South Australian Landcare Award in the Climate Innovation category, reflecting our dedication to developing practices that protect the land for generations to come.

We are ready to respond to sustainable and low emissions grains markets if and when they become available.

Moisture Retention & Soil Health

Protecting the soil is central to everything we do, as demonstrated by our long-term commitment to moisture retention practices.

Maintaining stubble cover preserves soil moisture, resulting in deeper root penetration and higher productivity

We focus on weed control during the summer months to help minimise competition for nutrients.

Efficient, Productive Machinery Use

We invest in machinery that maximises yield, minimises waste, and fits our production scale.

For decades we have used GPS guidance and autosteer, decreasing overlap and increasing efficiency.

Our practices include:

  • Combining trial data with machinery choices to minimise grain loss
  • Headers chosen for minimal grain loss and high efficiency
  • Matching machinery capacity to production scale for full utilization

Technology-Driven Decision Making

Data informs everything we do, from the ground up.

  • Moisture probes guide decision-making, especially in drought or frost conditions
  • Supports targeted fertilizer applications

Weather Monitoring & Chemical Stewardship

We’re committed to responsible chemical use, backed by live environmental data.

Mesonet weather data provides real-time information on:

  • Wind
  • Temperature
  • Inversions (to avoid chemical drift)

Precision Agriculture

Precision tools help us apply the right inputs, in the right places, at the right time.

We determine variable rate applications for:

  • Lime
  • Nitrogen
  • Gypsum
  • Soil ameliorants

Weed Seeker technology detects green-on-brown to ensure we only spray weeds, supporting a targeted and high-rate application on specific plants
